Romney Suspends His Reach for the Presidential Bid
Mitt Romney is expected to give up his bid for the Republican Presidential Candidate at the Annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC today. Romney’s poor showing in Iowa, New Hampshire and other crucial states on Super Tuesday is believed to be the main reason for his departure.
While he did win states like Utah, Minnesota, Colorado and Massachusetts, and leads Mike Huckabee with over 100 delegates, Romney secured only 270 delegates. The GOP front-runner is clearly John McCain with a staggering 680 delegate out of the 1,191 Republican delegates needed to secure the Republican candidacy.
"This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters ... many of you right here in this room ... have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming president. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country," Romney planned to say, reports AP.
Romney was an early projected winner in the primary election, and despite using millions from his own finances on his race to the candidacy, many of the religious voters took the side Evangelical Leader Mike Huckabee. Not even a win in his home state of Michigan could propel Mitt Romney to the White House.
